FAQ/ FORMS

What is counseling/therapy?
Counseling & therapy are often used interchangeably. Counseling at times can be considered brief, while
therapy is a longer-term treatment. During both, a relationship is established between client and
licensed/trained clinician to assist client with concerns of mental illness (behavioral/emotional) to
achieve life changes.
What does counseling/therapy look like?
It starts as a conversation between two people. First, you will tell me your story. Then share what you
would like to be different about your story. Also discuss what you would like the outcome of therapy to
be for your life.
How long is therapy?
Therapy is very situational and depends on your circumstance. Therapy can be short as a dozen sessions
or long as a year depending on how much support you need. Sessions are usually weekly and can garner
the most benefit when done regularly. Although, therapy is very flexible, and you decide what’s best for
you.
Is therapy successful?
Absolutely, with honest and consistent sessions therapy can be very successful. As the client, you will
drive the success of treatment. Therapy provides the tools to overcome your current challenges
providing skills to avoid certain patterns/triggers. It’s a process although your desired outcome can be
achieved.
Do you accept insurance?

Utilizing insurance often requires a diagnosis to determine medical necessity. Many insurance
companies don’t consider life transitions, personal development, relations or existential issues as a
medical necessity. I currently accept CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance as payment, clients may elect to use
their out of network benefits. As the client you will pay full fee for session and a monthly superbill
(detailed receipt containing diagnosis for insurance billing) can be provided and then submitted for
reimbursement from your health insurance carrier. To inquire more about Out of Network benefits,
contact your insurance company to verify.

Some important questions to ask:

  • Do I have out-of- network benefits for mental health services provided by licensed
    counselors?
  • If so, is there a deductible that needs to be met before I can start getting reimbursed?
What percentage of my payment will be reimbursed?
  • How do I submit out-of- network benefits claims?

Paying for therapy out of pocket allows for no third-party involvement. Therefore, your treatment
remains private unless you choose to disclose and do not require a diagnosis. Your treatment and length of
session will be decided amongst you and I without mandates of insurance companies.
